Charles Novo Jr. Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was established by the Union in 2007 to honor the memory of Charles Novo, Jr. who led the decertification effort that lead to the establishment of AME. Applicants for this essay scholarship will be required to submit an essay on the topic of “Weingarten Rights, Why Representation Matters in the Workplace”. In 1975, the United States Supreme Court upheld a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) decision that employees have a right to union representation at investigatory interviews. These rights have become known as the Weingarten Rights. In an essay, please explain what Weingarten Rights are, why they matter in the workplace, and share a real-life example of Weingarten Rights in action.
