Established in 2009, this scholarship honors the memory of Dorie Rossiter, a cherished charter member of our Union. In 1984, Dorie joined Charles Novo Jr. in the successful decertification effort that led to our union’s formation. A dedicated volunteer and committee member, she regularly attended AME conventions. After retiring in 1999 from 31 years as a Suffolk County Crossing Guard, Dorie continued her commitment as President of the Retirees Unit until her passing in 2007. She is fondly remembered as one of AME’s most loyal friends. Click here for the flyer.

Analyze how she contributed to advancing the rights of workers and influenced the labor movement. Use specific examples from her activism, campaigns, or leadership roles to illustrate her legacy.
All applicants must be enrolled in programs at accredited institutions of higher learning, including BOCES, during the Fall 2026 semester.
