As AME continues its active contract negotiations with the County, members are getting confused and frustrated by the spread of rampant rumors purporting to state various contract terms that have been ‘finalized’. Although we do have agreement on several items in principle and are close to agreement on several other items, negotiations remain ongoing, which means that technically ‘nothing’ is absolutely finalized. Nevertheless, AME leadership is regularly meeting with the County and we believe they are acting in good faith as we now focus on the several outstanding details.
As we continue to narrow the remaining gap, members must remember that the many rumors heard within the office or seen on social media have no official standing. Only statements or announcements issued via official AME sources, such as the AME website or social media outlets should be considered accurate. As soon as there is a full agreement in principle, AME will issue an official statement and immediately schedule a General Membership meeting to present the details to the members. Thereafter, we will schedule a vote as quickly as feasible for approval by the membership. Once approved, the contract would be placed on the agenda of the Suffolk County Legislature for ratification.
