Per the Suffolk AME Constitution & Bylaws:
Section 5. Amendment Proposals.
a. Proposed amendments to the Constitution & Bylaws may be submitted by any member in good standing of the Association. Proposed amendments shall be submitted and date stamped by staff at the Association office on or before the announced deadline for submissions prior to the Constitutional Convention. However, an amendment may be presented at the current convention following the Certificate of Necessity process, upon determination as urgent. UD F-2016
b. The Constitution & Bylaws Committee or their designee will contact each proposer via email and/or phone prior to the official publication of all proposed amendments in the Association’s Voice and on the Association’s website. UD 2018
Section 6. Submission Process.
a. Any member of the Association may submit proposals to amend the Constitution & Bylaws of the Association. UD 2008
b. With the exception of Certificates of Necessity, all proposed amendments to the Constitution & Bylaws must be submitted to the Constitution & Bylaws Committee at least sixty (60) days prior to each convention. UD 12/03
c. Any proposed amendments to the Constitution & Bylaws will be available for pick up at the Association Headquarters for the attending delegate at least twenty (20) days prior to each convention. UD 2018
d. Proposed amendment determined as urgent may be presented as a Certificate of Necessity and presented to the delegate body for a vote at the current convention after review by the Constitution & Bylaws Committee and Convention Committee. UD 2008
Section 7. Official Notification.
Prior to any Convention of the Association, the Association shall publish the final submission date of all amendments; and the exact proposal(s) to change, add to, or modify that which the delegate body will be voting upon, excepting Certificate(s) of Necessity. Amendments which have been duly adopted shall be published in the Association’s official publication no later than sixty (60) days following the close of Convention. UD 2024
Section 8. Amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws.
This Constitution & Bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the delegates present and voting at a duly constituted convention following the Submission Process (Section 6) and the Official Notification Process (Section 7). UD 2019
