UNDERSTANDING YOUR HEALTH BENEFITS: SUFFOLK COUNTY EMHP

As your union, we believe that all members and County employees should have a clear understanding of the health benefits available to them. With this in mind and in recognition of National Wellness Month, we have compiled some helpful information regarding the Employee Medical Health Plan (EMHP) of Suffolk County. In addition to the ancillary benefits provided by the Suffolk County Municipal Employee Benefit Fund, you are also covered under the EMHP.

► Who Is Covered? The EMHP provides coverage for a broad range of individuals, including:

• Active employees

• Retirees

• Dependent survivors

• Employees on leave of absence

• Self-paying faculty

• Terminated vested employees

• Union benefit fund employees

• COBRA participants

► What Does the EMHP Cover? This comprehensive plan offers you and your covered dependents access to:

• Hospital benefits

• Major medical benefits

• Prescription drug benefits

• Mental health and substance use disorder benefits

• Enrollment and Administration

The Suffolk County Department of Human Resources, Personnel and Civil Services – Employee Benefits Unit – manages enrollment, COBRA administration, and coordination with third-party administrators to ensure your benefits are well supported.

► Oversight and Policy Management

The EMHP is overseen by the Labor Management Committee, a joint group made up of representatives from each of the ten Suffolk County bargaining units and County representatives appointed by the County Executive. This committee meets monthly to address policy issues, review claims disputes, monitor provider performance, and consider plan administration changes.

For all Suffolk AME members, staying informed about your benefits is key to maximizing your coverage and support. Please be sure to visit the Suffolk County EMHP webpage at emhp.org, where you can view the Benefits Booklet, All Employee Memos, important forms, and more.
